the gift that keeps on giving

From: Takn'kat (takkat_attack@yahoo.com) | Date: 2004-01-05 18:23:24 UTC-08:00
For Christmas this year, I made my mother a
letterboxing stamp, and got her a bag, a journal, "The
Letterboxers Companion" from the local Borders, and I
printed out some local clues in a little booklet.
She's a big fan of ferrets, so I thought I'd make a
cute little ferret stamp.

What do you think?

This photo is included in my portfolio under "logo
design" since that's the closest thing I could think
of relevant to someday landing a good design job.

Tak and I brought her on her first letterbox the day
after Christmas at Bigelow Hollow Park in CT. And
amazing day. She was so excited, and hasn't stopped
talking about it since. Add another letterboxer to the
world!

Anyone go letterboxing in RI the weekend after
Christmas? We did the Loch Ness Monster and Nokkun Wud
letterboxes. It was an amazingly warm day. And what a
beautiful walk in the woods!

Here's to a mild winter!

I'd take one any day! Your mom must love it.

What a great gift! I absolutly love that journal. Can I ask where
you found it? And that ferret is adorable. :)
You're mom must be extra special to get an extra special gift like
that.

It looks like you watermarked (ghosted) a larger rendition of the logo on the upper right corner of the local clue sheets. (Or am I seeing things?) That's a nice touch.

It was just at a Borders/Barnes and Noble kind of
store. Usually book stores have little journals up
near the front of the store.

My mom's pretty special. Plus, handmade gifts are less
money and much more valuable.

Yeah, it's sortof an extention of an identity.
Something you'd do with a logo if you were to present
it to a client, like "here's your logo on a book, as a
watermark, as a stamp". I went to school for that sort
of thing, though haven't made it to a real career yet.
So all my friends get really creative presents.

I did this for our 2 babysitters, too! I must say the stamps I carved
them (after picking thier mother's brain for favorite things) are
100% better than my own signature stamp!I handmade journals and
included local clues.

They just returned from vacation and I can't wait to give it to them!

Didn't think to include the book, hmmm, maybe I can pick up a copy
soon!
